Edmund has been recast as my niece has been antsy for the return of her Ken.  He is now posable!

And yes.  Even more cracky than before.  But this is for SgL.  Maybe nice guys can win.

Crack Red Riding Hood Extras

You can fill in your own internal dialogue/story.  These are alternate shots or things that for whatever reason, didn’t fit into the “canon” of the previous crack story.  It also reveals behind-the-scenes shots.

I knew I needed natural light for the photoshoot, but through the test shots, I discovered that actual sun was terrible for getting good pictures, so I migrated everything over into the shade.

I am not much of a seamstress, yet I somehow always manage to force myself to sew things.  The Wolf Man was rather challenging.  I am highly neurotic and feel obligated to keep the Japan Ken doll intact (please google image this guy) and as such, decided not to cut the plastic bits holding his hair in place in the back of his head as well as not remove his clothing because guess what?  HIS HAIR IS SEWN TO HIS OUTFIT IN THE FRONT.  So I had to design an outfit for Mr. Wolfram that would work around his clothes AND the two strands of hair trailing down the side of his face and attached to his chest as well as adequately cover up any bits of red clothing underneath.  Whew.

I am sort of a fan of his faux fur.  And even though I really doubted my ability to make the tiny wolf ears, they were incredibly fun and make him look hilarious imo.

Red is a very old doll from my (pre)adolescence.  Due to my neurosis, many of my dolls are still in tip-top form.  She had just the right kind of hair for Elanore: bangs, past shoulder length, with a curl.  There are issues with her red cloak, but shh…

Poor Edmund is being returned to my niece, so he will be recast should any future pictures be taken.  I may or may not also have to find new pants for him.

I’m trying to think of any other interesting tidbits…but they have since fled my brain.

On characterization of crack:

Don’t think.  Just do.

Boil characters down to the basic essentials and then exaggerate those things tenfold.

In the case of Elanore:  Unfortunately, she is quite passive here.  But the main attributes are her “ladyhood” and peacekeeping disposition.

In the case of Edmund:  As (arguably) a romantic, I made him melodramatic and speaking in wannabe-Shakespearean.

In the case of Wolfram:  Stoic, speaks mysteriously, and drops hints as to his true nature…

Hm…I guess next I should work on a collab for Ms. Waters?  BUT WHAT??  Sock puppets?? O.o

Crack Red Riding Hood (for SgL)

The following slideshow is pure and utter crack.  Apologies if the slides go too fast.  Photobucket only has three speed settings (and WordPress slideshow only one).  You may have to pause every now and then.  You can also view the individual pictures at: THE ALBUM.

So, I’ve been sitting on this for a very long time.  I wrote the script back in January and (in true ME fashion) took weeks to select the right fabrics and even longer to assemble costumes (including stealing my niece’s Ken doll, which she has been upset over my having kept for half the year).  The backdrop was very easy (the apple tree made from foam and construction paper), although the crayon doesn’t show up and for future, will use paint instead.  The photoshoot was incredibly fun and yielded around 7 times the number of photos that actually made the canon “cut.”  In true indecisive fashion, the photo selection process was arduous and digital media being my weakest point, involved trying to figure out how to do what I wanted done (tho I ended up filching a particular job onto a friend).

Digital Sparklies added by: Celly
Phantom hand provided by: The Great and Powerful and Hot and All Girls Want Him Nate (or just Nate)
Overall patience and sanctuary to work credit goes to: Nate

Edmund played by: my niece’s Ken
Elanore played by: my Theresa (over ten years old!)
Wolfy played by: Japan Ken

Next week (I hope) there will be a second set of pictures that show behind-the-scenes as well as the photos I really liked, but that didn’t end up in the final cut (for various reasons).  I’ll write more about the creation process then!

Also, if there are any requests for specific shots (certain poses from a certain angle), let me know!  I will try to accommodate!  Your Red Riding Hood fantasy come to life…in doll form!!! 😄

Update, A Square Paradise pt 2

Update: Here’s Ben! (Written by T.E.Waters)

“A Square Paradise” is an experiment in round-robin fiction.

The explanation for how it was set up is here.

What have the wenches been up to?

All sorts of stuff.  A lot of it is focusing on our individual projects, but we’re also tentatively moving the concept of a monthly collaboration to a bi-monthly collaboration, since the relentless ticking of time has been rather unkind.

Please bear with us!  We promise very cool things are on the way!

Meanwhile, another highlight reel for , a kid-friendly journey through the awkwardness of pre-adolescence.

Then he let me play with his gameboy so I won’t tell.  He’s a good brother.

My brother found a dead frog in our backyard.  The skin was all dried and crumbly feeling.  We showed Lea and she poked it.  Boop.

My mom says gremlins are the ones moving my things all the time. I think it’s just her.

Lessons I learned on July 12:  mosquitoes can still bite you even in the morning.

Markie (my sworn enemy) tried to scare me by throwing a grasshopper at me.  But I’m so much better than him.  I put worms on my head and chased him around.

He was scared of worms!  Or worms on my head or something.  What a dummy.  I WON!

Mom painted me and Lea’s nails today!!!  So we made desserts out of mud.

The last two questions that perplexed her were:

-Nemo went from the toilet to the ocean. Does that mean the beach is full of people poop?

-If men are from Mars and women are from Venus, where do babies come from?

Wrapping up Jan 2011 collabs – a conversation with EK

It’s February, you say?  You just have to learn to think outside the box.

I poke and poke and keep poking EK for information in our conversational informal interview:  Diverting Digressions, where we talk about everything from deceptively cheerful characters to fantasy to personal vices.  I attempt to peek at the world from inside EK’s brain.

And if you are still looking for something to do, go read EK’s .

What will February have in store?  Better keep an eye out!

Suzy up to now…

Here is a highlight reel of the past month of updates.

Mom works a lot, so when she’s home, she likes to watch weird shows from China with little boys that talk like little girls with super high voices.  I always fall asleep.

The counselor said I’m supposed to put the date down every time I write?  And that I’m supposed to keep everything so I can look back at what I wrote.  So DON’T recycle it after I write it.

Here is a picture of what I look like.  I drew it on a napkin.

There are a lot of White people here.  There are some Asian people and Mexican people and Black people too.

I waited until we lit all our sparklers and they were done before I walked over to Markie all calm-like.  Then I kicked him and ran into the house.

Markie complained, I could hear him from inside, but my parents never said anything to me.  They probably thought he deserved it.  (He really did)
